A court in Abu Dhabi handed down long jail terms for members of a vice ring that included Asian expatriates and local policemen.

Police had busted the ring at an apartment in the busy Electra Road in the middle of the capital’s town centre following a tip off.

Eight people were arrested during the raid, including three Asians, an Indonesian woman accused of practising prostitution and four Emiratis comprising two policemen and two working for another security department.

A court on Monday sentenced three main Asian defendants to 10 years in prison and ordered their deportation from the UAE after they were found guilty of running a vice ring and bribing public servants.

It also sentenced an Emirati public servant to eight years in jail for co-running a vice ring and forging official documents and an Emirati woman to three years for forgery.

An Indonesian woman convicted of practising prostitution was sentenced to five years and ordered deported from the country.

Two other local defendants were sentenced to three years in prison while an eighth defendant, a senior Emirati public servant, got eight years for taking Dh25,000 bribe in return for facilitating the activities of the vice ring.
