A Pakistani allegedly broke the glass of a car using a screwdriver and stole two mobile phones and some gold ornaments from the vehicle, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

A compatriot is accused of possessing the stolen mobile phones.

On April 19, AA, 44, Egyptian sales manager, stopped his car in Shindagha area. When he returned to the vehicle after about two hours, he noticed that the glass of the right back door was broken.

Checking his belongings, he found out that his two mobile phones, two gold bracelets, earrings and a ring were missing.

The victim reported the theft to the police, which was already investigating a number of similar theft complaints.

Police managed to trap the accused AM, 25, jobless, arrested him red handed while he was breaking into a car that was put under surveillance.

When confronted with this theft, AM admitted to breaking into the car using a screwdriver, taking advantage of darkness in the area.

AM, however, admitted to stealing only the mobile phones which he sold to compatriot MR, 21, painter.

Police confiscated the screwdriver which AM had used in the crime. Criminal Evidences reported finding the accused’s blood and DNA on the tool.

Police arrested the painter who admitted to buying a number of mobile phones from AM without asking him about their bills.

The court will reconvene on November 17.
