Tourists use forged credit cards, passports to buy electronic items

Two Malaysians used forged Indonesian passports and credit cards to buy electronic items worth Dh15,00, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

ASW, 19 and TSL, 22, visitors have been accused of forging passports, entry stamps and credit cards with the help of two other fugitives to buy two iPhones and two iPads.

HS, 25, Egyptian salesman, testified that the two accused approached his shop in the Festival City and after checking the iPhones they decided to buy two sets for Dh6,920.

“The first accused paid with a Visa card with the name of Mack Chan and presented an Indonesian passport that carried the same name. When I was preparing the invoice, the second accused decided to buy two iPad sets of Dh8, 000 and he submitted another Visa card. I noticed a bank notification on the company’s email stating that the transaction was failed because the Visa card was forged. I called the police who arrested the two accused,” he testified.

Police confiscated a number of cards and two Indonesian passports that all were forged. The court will reconvene on September 20.
