Oman Air will start flights to two German cities from September and add three other destinations this year, it said yesterday.

"Flights to Frankfurt and Munich are planned to start by the end of September, [and] Paris, Maldives and Colombo by October this year," said Hamad Al Harthy, Oman Air's Senior Manager of Global Distribution.

Oman Air flies to 26 international destinations but said in March this year that it planned to expand its routes to 40 by the end of 2009.

The carrier operates 15 aircraft and expects to increase the fleet to 23 by the end of the year. The airline is owned 92 per cent by the Oman Government and eight per cent by prominent investors in Oman. There are no plans to divest any shareholding in the near term, he said.
