Finland keen to boost commerce with the UAE

Finland is keen to boost trade with the UAE, which is already the largest importer of Finnish products in the region and is located close to Asian and Arab markets vital to Finland's trade, said a Finnish official.

Simo Karetie, chief policy adviser at the Confederation of Finnish Industries, said out of a total of €2 billion (Dh11.45bn) of Finland's exports to the GCC countries, the UAE alone accounted for €841 million, followed by Saudi Arabia with €768m, Kuwait with €126m and Qatar with €104m.

According to Karetie, mobile phones and electronics topped the list of Finland's exports followed by paper products, equipment and chemicals.

"Finnish companies are planning more energy, petrochemical and aluminium plants in the Gulf," Karetie said.
