The Dubai Court of Cassation yesterday refused to suspend a sequestration order on the Hamarain shopping centre and JW Marriott hotel in Deira.

The suspension was requested by a lawyer representing the Hamarain family in a Dh4 billion dispute over the ownership of the properties. He said the order harmed the reputation of the two businesses.

The family is challenging an Appeal Court ruling in favour of the Bu Risli family of Kuwait.

The court ruled that the Bu Rislis owned 80 per cent of the assets while the Hamarains owned the remaining 20 per cent.

The order was executed on November 9.

The Hamarains have asked the Court of Cassation to return the case to be heard again by another Appeal Court. The Cassation Court will hear the family's challenge on April 4.
