Police found hashish when they searched the home and car of a 25-year-old Frenchwoman with a high-powered job, Dubai Criminal Court was told yesterday.

Defendant CV, a general manager, did not attend yesterday's hearing. She is charged with possessing and using the drug.

Witness Hussain Mohammed, a drugs squad officer, said a tip-off was received about the accused using cannabis, and as a result the public prosecution ordered the search of her home at Al Barsha by policewomen.

Defendant CV was arrested after tobacco mixed with hashish was found in her car and at her residence.

When the accused was asked, she said she used hashish at a nightclub in Dubai nine days back, said Mohammed.

A urine sample was taken and tests revealed the presence of cannabis in the woman's system.

The court adjourned the case until Wednesday, March 17.

Emirati denies crime

- A UAE national yesterday denied smuggling marijuana into the country and using the drug – although he admitted he had used hashish while abroad.

The court heard that a customs officer became suspicious when the accused HS, 28, arrived at Dubai International Airport from Tanzania.

The officer searched the defendant's bag and found marijuana.

The accused had told the officer when queried that he knew nothing about the drug and said his brother had packed the bag – but a urine test revealed the presence of cannabis in his body.

The case was adjourned until March 21, and the court ordered that the accused should remain in custody until then.
