Construction-lift operator dies in Sharjah mishap

A lift operator at a construction company died after he fell from the elevator on the sixth floor of the building under construction in Sharjah.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

Kuna Swamy, 25, from Andhra Pradesh in India had been working at Trans Emirates Contracting since 2006.

“The incident came to light when one of his colleagues, another lift operator found him missing during the regular break at 9am. That is when they started looking around and found his body, lying in a pool of blood right under the elevator that was on the sixth floor,” said the official.

“The ambulance and police rushed to the spot, but he was declared dead,” he added.

The incident occurred at the CBD building, which has 24 floors and is  under construction.

“The police are investigating the case. We still do not know how he fell down. He must have probably missed the lift,” he added.

“Although he joined us in 2006 as a helper he was later working as a lift operator,” the official added.

The construction work of the building is nearing completion. Meanwhile, work at the site continued uninterrupted on Wedneday.
