Indian wins 12.5 kilos of gold in Dubai raffle

And the 12.5kilo gold bar went to Pillarisetty Srinivas Rao. The Indian national holding ticket number 529 yesterday won the “Gold Rush” draw as part of the 28th anniversary of Dubai Duty Free.

As Dubai Duty Free celebrated its 28 anniversary on Tuesday, prices worth several millions were given away.

While the gold price alone was worth Dh2.35 million, other raffles that were drawn included the $1million Millennium Millionaire that was won by Shant Boghosian, a Syrian national with ticket number 1892. Ahmed Ibrahim Al Blooshi, a UAE national from Ajman won the Jaguar XK 5.0 Coupe with ticket no 872.

Meanwhile, travelers made the best use of the massive discount offer that was on throughout Tuesday.

According to reports, there was a massive jump in daily sales figures. A report by The Moodie Report said sales on the anniversary day at the Dubai Duty Free could exceed $20million. Quoting Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin the report said that the company was looking forward to its highest annual turnover so far with a 15.5 per cent increase compared sales in 2010.  Overall sales this year is expected to reach $1.46billion, the report added.
