Two killed, nine injured in fire in southern Germany

Two people have been killed and nine others injured in a fire in southern Germany, the Deutsch Presse-Agentur, DPA, has reported.

DPA quoted police as saying, "A 42-year-old man and his 72-year-old mother were killed, while nine others people suffered smoke inhalation in a residential building in Neubulach, a town near Stuttgart."

There were 20 people in the building when the fire erupted, two of whom left when the fire started and seven of whom were brought to safety by firefighters without sustaining injuries.

"It took three hours to douse the flames and several of the apartments were completely destroyed," police said, adding that the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
