A local police commissioner says two explosions have struck a northeast Nigeria city amid church explosions elsewhere in the country that have left 25 dead.

Yobe state police commissioner Tanko Lawan said Sunday the blasts happened at noon in Damaturu, the state capital. Lawan said he had no other immediate details.

Damaturu and surrounding towns were at the center of clashes between the sect known as Boko Haram and security forces earlier this week that killed at least 61 people.

Meanwhile, at least 25 people have died in an explosion during Christmas Mass at a Catholic church near Nigeria's capital Abuja. Another blast occurred near a church in Jos on Sunday.
