A teenage girl was brutally raped repeatedly whilst travelling along on a train from Solapur to Mumbai, over a course of 20 hours.

The accused, a 21-year-old painter, has been arrested by the GRP, according to Times of India.

The incident occurred on Friday, when the 15-year-old girl took off for Mumbai after being reprimanded by her parents for not studying. The girl then headed to the Solapur station and boarded a train, with plans to head to her aunt’s home in the city.

“The accused, Kishan Kumar Sahani, a resident of Pune, had gone to Solapur for work and was returning home by the same train. He spotted the girl, jostling for space in the crowded coach. Realising that she was travelling alone, he offered his seat to her and befriended her," the police said.

Sahani persuaded the victim to get off at the Pune station with him, stated the police. Upon reaching Pune around 12.30am on Saturday, Sahani took the teen to an empty train compartment and raped her, according to the police.

Later that morning, Sahani and the girl boarded the Deccan Express bound for Mumbai.

Upon reaching the Dadar station that evening, the victim rang her aunt via Sahani’s mobile. However, before the aunt could reach, Sahani raped the girl twice again to an empty rake in the yard.

The girl’s aunt called up Sahani asking about the girl once she reached the train station.

“When the victim told her aunt about the rape, she tried to haul Sahani to the police. But as he attempted to flee, the aunt raised an alarm and passengers caught Sahani,” said a senior official.
