It's official. Persistent has caused the second match also to be abadoned with both teams sharing two points apiece.

The deluge which abandoned the first match of the double header at Ahmedabad has threatened to deliver the same result in the Group A match between IPL champions Mumbai Indians and top Qualifier Otago Volts in the day-night clash.

Highveld Lions and Perth Scorchers playing their first match in the Champions League Twenty20 Group A match were forced to share the points after a deluge washed out any hopes of play at Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad on Monday.

The Highveld Lions skipper Alviro Petersen won the toss and put the Scorchers in to bat with the match scheduled to start on time.

However, within minutes of the toss, the skies opened up and the rain did not relent for more than an hour, turning the ground into a virtual swimming pool causing the Match Officials to abandon the match.

The Scorchers handed T20 caps to Ashton Agar, Joel Paris and Ashton Turner, before the rains set in and forced the match to be abandoned.

Highveld Lions XI: Alviro Petersen (captain), Quinton de Kock (wicket-keeper), Rassie van der Dussen, Hardus Viljoen, Temba Bavuma, Jean Symes, Dwaine Pretorious, Sohail Tanvir, Aaron Phangiso, Imran Tahir, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

Perth Scorchers XI: Simon Katich (captain), Laim Davis, Ashton Agar, Adam Voges, Ashton Turner, Hilton Cartwright, Tom Triffitt (wicket-keeper), Joel Parris, Jason Behrendorff, Brad Hogg, Michael Beer.
