Two Pakistani drivers ASM, 41, and MAT, 30, allegedly hit a compatriot with a wooden bar and with their hands on his head and face, causing his death, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

While walking in Jebel Ali, an Indian blacksmith BRS, 23, saw a man on the ground. Coming closer, he found him unconscious and bleeding heavily. “I called the police who came and rushed him to the hospital,” he testified.

First Corporal Mohammed Ali testified that the hospital was asked to inform the police if anyone visits him.

“Three days later we received a call from the hospital telling us about two Pakistanis who visited him. We questioned the visitor and one of them admitted selling alcohol in Jebel Ali and that he is a friend of the victim.  He knew the victim through an alcohol dealer who proved to be one of the accused.

“Investigating further, police found out that the accused drove a trailer truck and, together with another friend, had attacked the victim because of a dispute related to alcohol dealing. They admitted to attacking the victim with their hands and wooden bars,” testified the officer.

The two claimed that they had hit the victim with their hands after consuming alcohol because of a dispute about their alcohol trade. The accused admitted to hitting the victim but denied any intention of killing him.

“He was alive when we left after beating him. We were scared that he would report us trading in alcohol to the police. We had a heated argument with him and he abused us and we also abused him and then got into a fight,” the two said.

Forensic reported that the victim suffered lung inflation and respirational failure that caused his death. He also sustained fractures in the face bones that required surgeries.

It was reported that the accused may have been hit with hard tools that could include a thick wooden bar besides beating by hand. However, it was also reported that hitting with hands alone cannot cause the serious injuries on the victim.

Medical report of Rashid Hospital stated that the victim had fractures in the jaw, nose and around the eyes and required surgical intervention.

The court will give its verdict on May 8.
