Shocking: Mom kills 6 babies, stores bodies in garage for years
A Utah mother accused of killing six of her newborn babies and storing their bodies in her garage has pleaded guilty to murder.
The 39-year-old Megan Huntsman entered six guilty pleas Thursday morning in a court in Provo.
Huntsman will be sentenced April 20. She faces up to life in prison.
The agreement brings closure to a case that sent shockwaves through the quiet, mostly Mormon community where Huntsman stored the tiny bodies for more than a decade. Her estranged husband found them in April 2014 in the small city of Pleasant Grove, Utah, south of Salt Lake City.
Authorities say a seventh baby found in her garage was stillborn.
"The defendant gave birth to six children...immediately after each child's birth, she either choked or smothered the child to death," a prosecutor said, according to The Salt Lake City Tribune
Darren West, 41, Huntsman's estranged husband who had reportedly served eight years in prison on drug charges, found the remains of a baby wrapped in bags and a towel, the paper reported. Police were alerted to the discovery and later found the other bodies.
Police, according to the paper, said Huntsman used methamphetamine and the addiction was a motive.
