Etihad Airways has appointed Greg Brennan as project manager for the Abu Dhabi International Airport's new midfield terminal due to open in 2012, the airline said yesterday.

Brennan, who moves up from his current position as regional general manager for Europe, will manage all aspects of the new airport development on behalf of Etihad Airways in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Airports Company and other major developers involved in building the new $6.8 billion (Dh25bn) airport terminal, Etihad Airways said in a statement.

With 20 years of experience in the aviation industry, Brennan joined Etihad Airways in April 2006 as the airline's manager of airport operations, moving to his current role as regional general manager airport operations Europe in January 2007, where he handled 11 airports.

Prior to that, Brennan spent 11 years with Australia's Qantas, before he joined Virgin Blue in 2000 where he held a number of senior airport management positions.

The Abu Dhabi midfield terminal will open in phases, beginning at the end of 2011. Once fully operational, the new airport will be able to accommodate 20 million passengers per year.

Eventually, capacity is expected to increase to 40 million passengers.
