New pharma laws are being drawn up

A review of laws governing the country's pharmacies is underway, according to a leading member of the Health Authority in Abu Dhabi (HAAD).
Dr Mohammed Abu Elkhair, Head of Pharma/Medicine and Medical Products Regulation Section at HAAD, said protocols that would standardise operations in pharmacies in public and private sector hospitals were being considered.
"We're working on updating pharmacy laws in conjunction with the health ministry and the authorities involved," he said.
"One of the challenges we're facing is how to improve pharmacies in hospitals, particularly those in the private sector. We want to introduce standard procedures." Dr Elkhair said HAAD was in talks with private sector hospitals about the new systems.
