Concept retail shops weather downturn

Concept retail outlets that had been planned before the crisis hit global economy, are still keeping their plans and are launching on schedule. In fact, the more affordable ones such as the newly-launched Shoexpress are finding an opportunity in the current situation.

Shoexpress, a new mid-priced footwear and accessories outlet, recently launched its first shop in Dubai, followed by another in Bahrain.

Glen Parnell, GM of Shoexpress, said: "We commenced our strategic planning and concept preparations before the effects of financial crisis were even known or felt internationally. Our decision to launch this 'value' business was based on our belief there was a gap in the Mideast market. I believe, the affordability of this concept will help it secure market share at such times, since people are keen on seeking value for money."
