The majority of people in the UAE believe the country will overcome the effects of the global financial crisis given its massive resources and the measures taken by the government, according to a new survey. The poll, conducted by the Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), covered 1,415 people who responded to an online questionnaire on whether the UAE would be able to withstand the fallout from the downturn. "The results conclusively show an optimistic outlook among most respondents over the ability of the UAE's economy to counter the burdens resulting from the global economic crisis," an ECSSR spokesman said yesterday. "As many as 74.7 per cent of the respondents believed the UAE's financial and economic institutions were capable of offsetting the impact of the global economic crisis, while only 20.85 per cent of the respondents held the contrary view. About 4.45 per cent of the participants remained undecided. "The results of the poll demonstrate the public's confidence in the UAE economy's ability to counter the global crisis. The majority of respondents showed their faith in the capability of the authorities to come up with solutions and measures to arrest the economic downturn." The survey was conducted between March 17 and April 17. ECSSR profile The ECSSR has achieved local, regional and international success since it was set up in 1994. Its high reputation is due in large part to the unbridled support it receives, the autonomy it enjoys, and the financial capabilities, openness, and modernity that characterise the UAE as a whole. The centre has grown steadily since it launch and its strategic plan continues to encompass projects and activities considerably beyond what currently exists. Its influence and impact have, however, already caught the attention of many, notably due to its enduring and deep-rooted contributions to the country's development. The ECSSR prioritises its outlook towards the future and has, on innumerable occasions, proven that adopting an open scientific approach and depending upon reliable sources and analysis will guarantee success.
