The National Media Council (NMC) and the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone (Saif Zone) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday over the regulation of media relations. The MoU is similar to agreements signed with other free zones that house media companies. This is in accord with a cabinet resolution calling for implementation of the same. The MoU, inked at the NMC headquarters in Abu Dhabi by Salim Al Ameri, Deputy Director-General of the NMC, and Khaled Al Madfa, Assistant Director- General of the Sharjah Airport Free Zone, calls for laying down a regulatory framework for media activities in a away that boosts the UAE's capacity to attract world media companies to the zone. The NMC is the authorised agency to regulate and issue media licences by virtue of Federal Law No 15 of 1980 concerning printing and publications and other cabinet resolutions.
