The 25-year old Bangladeshi worker faces deportation followed by the sentence, however, the verdict can be appealed within 15 days at the Court of Appeal. According to prosecution records, the alleged rape took place on April 22, when the defendant took advantage of the fact the Filipina maid was alone at their sponsor’s home and he forced himself upon her. The 37-year old alleged victim told police in her complaint that “the Bangladeshi entered my room and closed the door behind him. He then pulled me to bed and undressed me. He had forced sex with me.” The defendant in his statement to the prosecution admitted that he was drunk on that day and he had consensual sex with the maid. However, the sponsor’s Indian driver said that he saw the accused running away from the maid’s room and leaving the house on that day. “She was crying and so scared. I told her to call the police,” the driver said. Body fluid traces found on the maid’s body and on her bed blanket matched the defendant’s, according to the report of the General Department of Criminal Evidence.
