IPL6: Rajasthan beat Punjab by 6 wickets

Rajasthan Royals overcame a gritty fightback by Kings XI Punjab to win Match 17 of IPL6 by six wickets at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday night.

Chasing a small target of 125, RR were cruising at 43 with Shane Watson in full cry.

Watson smashed seven boundaries in his 19-ball 32 hardly giving the strike to his opening partner Rahane.

But his dismissal in the fifth over triggered a collapse which saw them stumble to 58 for three.

Gilchrist took brilliant catches behind the stumps of Kumar as Rajasthan lost skipper Dravid and Binny in quick succession.

It became 79-4 as Hodge was trapped leg before off Chawla in the 13th over.

But Rahane dashed any hopes of a Punjab by keeping a cool head and steering Rajasthan home in the company of Samson who hit the winning boundary.

Rahane remained unbeaten on 34 off 42 balls with three boundaries while Samson was not out onf 27 off 23 also hitting three boundaries.

Kumar finished with two for 10 while Awana and Chawla picked up a wicket apiece.

Samson opens his account with a sweetly timed shot through extra cover off Mahmood for a boundary and is dropped next ball by Harris at first slip.

Chawla traps Hodge leg before as Punjab bounce right back into the game.

Rajasthan are making heavy weather of chasing a small target of 125 collapsing to 68-3 at the halfway after a Watson gave them a flying start.

Kumar has struck twice within five balls with Gilchrist taking a blinder to dismiss Binny and keep alive Punjab's hopes.

KXIP recovered to make 124 after a horror start against RR being three down for 10 in the fourth over.

They were lifted by a defiant knock of 41 off 31 balls with four boundaries and a six by David Hussey and some lusty hits at the end by veteran Azhar Mahmood (23).

Sreeshant rocked Punjab in the second over by dismissing Gilchrist and Mandeep Singh to finish with two for 20.

Cooper and Trivedi struck crucial blows in the middle overs while Faulkner cleaned up the tail.

Hussey hits a welcome boundary off a free-hit from Sreeshanth.

Trivedi has struck as Gurkeerat Singh gets an edge to be caught behind.
