Arsenal's secret title-winning strike force

It’s a smoke-screen at the Emirates. The wily old Le Professor is coming up with a plan and a team to actually win back the Premier League title.

Ok, forgive the ‘actually’ and excuse the ‘win back’. You don’t actually win back something you have not won in close to a decade.

However, while others are busy throwing mega bucks or chasing shadows in the Euro-driven transfer market, Arsene Wenger has used Robin Van Persie as a fitting distraction to his really smart buys.

For all the talk of defenders and midfielders, what Arsenal really have lacked is depth in attack. Reliability in attack.

Toughness in attack.

Enter Olivier Giroud. The France international  from Montpellier stands at 6ft 3in. More importantly he is a fierce striker of the ball and a tough player to mark.

Notice how that description does not fit Marouanne Chamakh (or RVP) for that matter.

Then there is Lukas Podolski. A German with more pedigree than a killer Alsatian, and a work ethic and tackling prowess to boost.

To this mix add Van Persie, who may not go anywhere for 30 million pounds – not even to Manchester City.

Van Persie might stay simply because he now sees a squad which can indeed win a trophy. Or two.

No longer will RVP have to bear the burden, rather he can float freely like the butterfly he was meant to be… and then, sting like the bee.

Throw in a resurgent Theo Walcott (footballing brain, notwithstanding) and The Ox (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain), who is yet to be unleashed and suddenly that is a serious Arsenal squad.

One that even Manchester City and Chelsea might look and fear.

Manchester United, however, will continue to believe that the Arsenal game is won in the mind.

Something Giroud and Podolski will soon find out.
