Dubai: Facebook and Instagram users reported service disruptions on Sunday, with thousands of complaints logged as users experienced difficulties accessing the social media platforms.

According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, more than 4,800 reports were filed by Facebook users in the United States, while nearly 2,900 Instagram users reported issues with the app. Reuters also reported intermittent access problems affecting users in Singapore.

Some Facebook users attempting to log in via desktop browsers received a message stating that their accounts were temporarily unavailable due to a site issue.

Users reported a range of problems, including difficulties accessing the platforms, refreshing feeds and viewing content.

Outage-monitoring websites recorded a sharp rise in reports during the disruption, indicating that the issue affected users in multiple locations.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, had not issued an official statement on the cause of the disruption at the time of publication.
