A worker of a contracting company, which is executing a project at Dubai International Airport, was sentenced to six-month jail for stealing a passenger’s hand bag containing 50 mobile phones worth Dh85,000. According to the records, the passenger BD, 36, Eritrean, left her hand bag on a table in a rest area and went to the wash room. But she did not find the handbag when returned and lodged a complaint. Police reviewed airport security camera footage and identified JB, 35, Bangladeshi, stealing the item. The accused admitted to the theft when confronted by the police. He also returned passenger’s handbag and mobile sets to the police. JB admitted that when he was passing from area C in the departure lounge, he saw the handbag and took it. “I took it and went to the site’s store where I opened it and found that it contained mobile phone sets. I hid 9 in the flushing container of the toilet and others in the store, and one underneath my helmet,” the accused confessed.
