The Dubai Court of Appeal acquitted LKT, a 33-year-old Nepali cook, of the charge of groping a woman for which he had been sentenced to three months in jail and deportation by a lower court.

The 22 year-old victim, JCK, Filipina, receptionist at a restaurant, testified that the accused kept on harassing her since she joined the restaurant a year ago though she had asked him to stop and leave her alone.

“Seven months ago, he groped my butt and so I asked him not to do that again. He promised he will not do that again but he breached his promise.

“On November 13, he came to the reception area. I don’t know why he came there since, being a cook, he should rather be in the kitchen. I put a piece of paper in the back pocket of my trousers. Suddenly, I felt his hand being inserted into the pocket and when I was turning back he groped my butt. I slapped his hand and called my father who got very upset and asked me to report the incident to the police,” she testified.

In February, the Court of First Instance had found him guilty of molestation and sentenced him to three months imprisonment followed by deportation.

The Appeal Court acquitted him of the charge.
