Sri Lanka celebrates victory over rebels

The Sri Lankan government is holding a military parade and a formal ceremony to commemorate its victory in the civil war against the Tamil Tiger rebels.

Ambassadors, government ministers and other officials watched from a review stand as troops paraded down ColomboÕs main coastal road Wednesday. President Mahinda Rajapaksa will address the gathering.

The parade comes two weeks after the government declared victory in its quarter century war against the rebels. The government has held a succession of celebrations since then.
