The Dubai Court of Cassation has adjourned until tomorrow an appeal filed by the Public Prosecution and the plaintiff challenging an earlier verdict by the Dubai Appeals Court in a case concerning a former minister. The Appeals Court had earlier found the accused, KBF, who was also the UAE's first ambassador to Australia, not guilty of fraud. The plaintiff, Maysoun Fehmi Jamal, and the Public Prosecution had filed appeals challenging the verdict. Yesterday's hearing was attended by KBF, while the plaintiff could not attend, which made the judge adjourn to tomorrow as today is a public holiday on account of Isra Wal Miraj. The verdict is expected to be heard tomorrow. In the earlier case, the Appeals Court had acquitted the former minister of fraud, overturning a verdict by the Court of First Instance in February that sentenced him to two years. Also acquitted was KBF's son, MKBF. The former minister was charged with fraud against Lebanese businesswoman Jamal. American, SH, and Indian, BM, were also sentenced to two years, followed by deportation. KBF was accused of betrayal of trust by trying to seize a firm after the death of his Lebanese partner. Jamal, the partner's sister, filed the case against him. KBF was dismissed from his post as minister in the UAE Government on February 17.
