UAE stands firmly for child rights

The UAE announced yesterday that it has joined the International Organisation for the Protection of Children Against Abuse over the internet to become the first Arab country member.
Major General Nasser Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was named member of the board of trustees of the international child protection body.
Since accession in March 9, the Ministry of Interior affirmed its commitment to ensure safety of children in the UAE, and the world at large. The Ministry added that the UAE's engagement in the campaign against abuse of children will contribute to protection of child rights.
Al Nuami, the official representative of the International Visual Taskforce Board, said: "The UAE has resolved to become a centre of excellence for protection of children to heighten awareness against risks of new technologies they may face through several media including the internet.
He said the Ministry of Interior would deliver state-of-the-art services to upgrade the police and community performance. Al Nuami said the police-community partnership will be instrumental in adopting the international best practices and boost the UAE's drive in enacting the appropriate legislations and systems for protection of children.
