Tens of thousands of Argentine fans who had swarmed to watch the World cup Final fell silent while Germans broke into song and danced.

Argentina fans may have outnumbered their German counterparts heavily at the Maracana, but it was the German WAGs that made their presence felt after the final whistle.

A host of wives and girlfriends took to the pitch to congratulate their men.
