30-sec video can help you get UAE job?

With tough competition in the job market and limited number of jobs to vie for, it has become more important than before that you sell yourself to the recruiter in the best possible way.

One of the things to do is draft a perfect CV with an impressive covering letter but as technology advances it’s a better option that you let your resume talk.

This can be done by uploading a video of yourself, where you can talk to your potential employer, highlight your skills and expertise and if done smartly and effectively, you may grab his attention.

This also helps employers and recruiters swift through the fluff and shortlist the candidates that best suit the job.

Bloovo.com, an online social recruitment platform in the region, has introduced a 30-second video elevator pitch concept in a bid to address one of the most frequent causes of employer dissatisfaction – candidates turning out to be entirely different from the CV they have submitted.

“While speaking with hundreds of employers across the region, a common theme was that candidates during interviews were very often completely different from what their resumes stated. This is a major cause of dissatisfaction amongst employers because it obviously leads to wasted interview hours,” says the site’s co-founder and CEO Ahmad Khamis.

The new feature allows candidates to record and upload a 30-second video explaining what makes them a great candidate and suitable for the job they’re applying to.

“An elevator pitch must be short and snappy, and ours is no exception. Candidates need to get their strengths and suitability for the job out in front of the recruiter within 30 seconds, which really leaves no space for embellishments,” he notes.

Apart from cutting through the CV clutter for recruiters, such a video also helps candidates differentiate themselves from the rest. “For truly engaging candidates, the 30-second video pitch is an excellent way to make sure they don’t get lost in the thousands of CVs that might flow towards an application. It really helps jobseekers tell employers what makes them stand out,” Khamis adds.

Classified website dubizzle has also launched a video job application feature that allows job seekers to submit job applications via a video recording of 10-seconds up to two-minutes.

This new feature, the website officials believe, will make it easier for recruiters to screen candidates faster and fill vacancies more efficiently, as well as provide job seekers a platform to showcase their competitive advantage.

The job seekers can apply to job ads by recording a video application directly on the specific job ad page that they are viewing.

The video is then automatically sent through to the recruiter with their job application once they are satisfied with the take.

“These will be positioned on the top of the pile of applicants who have sent through their CVs, immediately giving the applicant with a video CV a competitive advantage over others, and allowing recruiters to focus on screening out unsuitable applicants and scheduling interviews with candidates that are better matched for the role they are advertising,” says Mireia Mujika, Product Manager dubizzle jobs.

InternsME, a career portal, offers video resume (Visume) service connecting employers directly, for internships, traineeships, freelance, temp and full-time job opportunities.
