Nearly Dh12 million was raised in an auction for 92 special vehicle plate numbers held recently by the Licensing Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

About 120 people participated in the 68th Distinguished Number Plate Auction, a higher public turnout compared to previous auctions despite the fact that many of the targeted citizens and residents are currently spending their summer vacations abroad.

Several double and triple digit numbers were auctioned during the event, which was preceded by a large marketing and promotional drive.

Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA Licensing Agency, said the agency offered several number plates of two digits (G 58 and H 91) and three digits (J 333 and I 786). These numbers were instrumental in escalating the competition among bidders considering their iconic references to the cultures of some UAE residents, he said.

The auction was associated with a mini blood donation campaign run by the Vehicles Licensing Department in co-operation with Blood Donation Centre of Dubai Hospital.

A Thai delegation visited the Licensing Agency on the eve of the auction to benefit from the RTA’s expertise in organising distinguished number plate auctions and also attended the auction proceedings.
