Psychologically ill woman faces drug charges
An Iraqi woman who suffers from a personality disorder is facing charges of taking drugs at the Dubai Criminal Court.
Police had received a tip-off about the 22-year-old woman MAR, who is not employed, that she possesses and takes drugs. She was arrested on January 14 from a shopping mall in the Al Ghusais area that she used to visit.
A search did not turn up anything suspicious. She told police that she takes medicine prescribed by a doctor who is treating her for a psychological illness.
However, a urine test proved that she took hashish and other type of drugs. When confronted with the test result, she told police that an Emirati, identified as AH, gave her a cigarette that badly affected her consciousness. The other drug shown in the test is her medicine, MAR told police.
A report submitted by Al Amal Hospital proved that the accused is under treatment for borderline personality disorder. The illness affects the behaviour of the patient but does not make her aware or irresponsible for what she is doing. The report said the patient needs continuous care and has to remain under psychological treatment.
The Dubai Criminal Court adjourned the case until September 2.
