Residents of the UAE planning to drive down to Oman over the weekend will need to pack that umbrella and wellies with thunderstorms lashing the country since Wednesday.

The wet weather may have largely given the UAE a miss, but strong fresh winds that have been blowing across the country since March 11 will continue into Friday, bringing about another significant drop in the Mercury.

According to the National Center for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), Thursday saw the lowest temperature drop to 4.7-degree Celsius.

The NCMS further stated on Friday’s conditions: “[The weather will be]partly cloudy over some areas. Moderate to fresh winds, especially over the sea. The relative humidity will increase during the night and early morning over some internal and coastal areas with a chance of some fog formation.”

The following day, a slight rise in the Mercury will also bring in moderate winds during the day over the sea.

The relative humidity is expected to further increase at night and early morning over some internal and coastal areas with a chance of some fog formation.

Meanwhile, a marine warning for both days stays in place, with the waters of the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea being rough, especially on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Across the border, Oman is facing strong weather conditions with the Oman Meteorology stating rains varying in amplitude over the capital Muscat and a number of northern provinces with thunderstorm cells in north Batinah for Thursday and Friday.

Heavy rain is expected across the country in the next 24 hours, especially in the provinces of North and South Batinah, Muscat, the northeast and south of Jabal Shams.
