A Nigerian was arrested by Customs officials at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for trying to smuggle in three kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, worth 15 million pesos (Dh1.34m)

Michael Owoborode, 40, arrived in the Philippines on April 19 from Bangkok, following his travels from his home country to India and Thailand, radio reports today said.

Philippine Customs officials had allegedly received information from their counterparts abroad when the drug mule would be arriving at NAIA, in Metro Manila’s Pasay City.

Owoborode is now under the custody of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), which is preparing to file the appropriate charges against him before the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
