An Asian man who raped a woman in Kuwait escaped execution when he won an appeal reducing his death sentence to life in prison, newspapers in the Gulf emirate said on Thursday.
The unnamed defendant had confessed to kidnapping the woman and raping her in a flat in Kuwait City. He then tried to blackmail her husband when he demanded a large sum of money from him.
A court earlier sentenced the man to death, prompting him to appeal. His two accomplices were sentenced to four years in jail each.
