A Jordanian deputy could have his tongue cut off in a tribal court after he offended a female colleague during a parliamentary debate in the Arab country.

Mohammed Al Dawaimeh could either have his tongue cut off for uttering insulting words against deputy Hind Al Fayez or he must pay what is worth of 100 camels.

Newspapers said parliament speaker Taher Al Masri led a delegation of deputies and dignitaries to visit Al Fayez tribe and mediate a solution. They said both parties agreed to any judgment by a tribal court, a tradition in that country.

“Dawaimeh faces two sentences… either he will have his tongue cut off or he must redeem himself with 100 camels,” newspapers said, quoting a tribal leader.

It was not immediately clear what Dawaimeh would choose.
