Saudi prince helps bride after dowry fire loss

A Saudi girl who is getting married next week hit headlines in the Gulf kingdom when her wedding dress and dowry money vaporized in a fire that swept her house.

But the girl’s shock did not last long after a member of the royal family quickly stepped into the breach and donated SR100,000 (Dh98,000) for her in compensation so she will push ahead with the wedding arrangements.

Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz, the Emir the Kingdom’s eastern region, decided to donate the sum after reading about the bride’s tragedy in local newspapers.

“The Prince called the bride’s family to make sure they are fine after the fire, which badly damaged their house…he wished her a happy marriage,” Ajel newspaper said in a report from the eastern port of Dammam.
