Colombo: A protest against hate speech and racial and religious attacks on minorities was held by thousands of Sri Lankans of all faiths and religions on the streets of the Colombo capital on Sunday 28 afternoon, ‘Mirror’ reported.

The anti-hate “Rally for Unity – Hate Has No Place in Sri Lanka” was held to protest against the extremist nationalistic group which created the recent incidents of violence directed at the minority communities.

The rally was organised by a voluntary movement of concerned Sri Lankans, as a part of a series of non-partisan, non-violent awareness campaigns, from various institutions, professions and industries.

People from all walks of life including Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Buddhist monks and Christian priests converged near Nelum Pokuna, Green Path in the morning carrying placards which read “Hate has no place in Sri Lanka” and “Racism Stops with me”.
