Sri Lankan asylum seekers take Australia to court

Two Sri Lankan Tamil asylum seekers have appealed to Australia's High Court to reassess their applications for refugee status after they were rejected.

The asylum seekers are pleading a lack of procedural fairness because the immigration minister failed to personally consider their cases.

David Manne of the Refugee and Immigration Legal Centre said Tuesday his group is challenging the fairness of the assessment of the Tamils, who reached Australia by boat last October but have been held on remote Christmas Island.

They face deportation back to Sri Lanka.
