Manchester United plan to spoil Chelsea's Premier League preparations by agreeing a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski next summer, according to the Daily Mail.

United have told the Bundesliga champions they are willing to pay £12 million for Lewandowski in a year, allowing Dortmund to keep their star player for the upcoming Champions League campaign before cashing in when the 23-year-old Poland international has only a year left on his contract, it said.

Chelsea are desperate to sign another class striker to provide competition for Fernando Torres and had Lewandowski top of their wishlist.

They are also keen to replace the departed Didier Drogba and were impressed with Lewandowski's displays for his country at Euro 2012.

United hope the presence of recent Dortmund recruit Shinji Kagawa at Old Trafford will persuade Lewandowski to head their way.
