Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police have launched a Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit, which will become operational on May 1st. The unit will enforce regulations regarding violations related to the use of bicycles and electric scooters, such as exceeding speed limits or carrying more than one person on a scooter. The unit will focus on several key locations, including Jumeirah Beach Road, Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, the Dubai Water Canal, and Business Bay.

RTA and Dubai Police General Command jointly announced the launch of a Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit to oversee and regulate these means of transport, which will be enforced starting from 1 May 2026, across all bicycle paths, main streets, and flexible mobility zones in the emirate. This step comes as part of both entities' commitment to ensuring compliance with traffic rules and safe operation by users of flexible mobility devices, thereby enhancing road safety for all road users.

The unit aims to monitor unsafe behaviors and address violations related to the use of bicycles and electric scooters by individuals, including adherence to designated paths, wearing helmets and protective clothing, observing specified speed limits, and preventing reckless driving or carrying more than one person on a scooter. Violations will be issued and offending vehicles impounded in coordination with the Emirates Auction Company.
