UAE weather: Humidity levels surge as temperatures soar to 47°C

Dubai: The UAE is set to experience a hot and hazy Friday, with fair skies, but temperatures climbing into the mid-to-high 40s in several inland areas, and the highest humidity levels we’ve seen so far, this summer. Higher temperatures all around Ensure you’re well protected from the heat today. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), temperatures will remain high across the country. Coastal areas will see maximum temperatures between 38°C and 44°C, while internal areas are expected to record highs of 41°C to 47°C. Mountain regions will be slightly cooler, with temperatures ranging between 31°C and 36°C. In major cities, temperatures are forecast to reach 45°C in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, 44°C in Dubai, and 43°C in Ras Al Khaimah. Fujairah will be cooler, at around 36°C. Increase in humidity expected Residents can expect light to moderate winds, blowing mainly from the southeasterly to northeasterly direction, with speeds of 10 to 20 km/h, occasionally reaching 30 km/h. Humidity levels will increase overnight and into Saturday morning, particularly over some western coastal areas, where there is a chance of fog or mist formation. Relative humidity may reach up to 90% in coastal areas, like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The NCM cautions motorists to drive carefully, if out and about early tomorrow morning, as fog may affect horizontal visibility. Cool off in the sea If you’re interested in beach activities tonight, the forecast looks favourable. The NCM expects sea conditions to remain slight in both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman all day, with wave heights generally between one and three feet. Weekend outlook The weekend is expected to remain mostly fair across the UAE. On Saturday, however, northwesterly winds are expected to pick up speed, reaching 40km/h, and causing blowing dust. Sunday, on the other hand, is expected to remain fair, with partly cloudy conditions possible over eastern areas. Humidity will increase overnight along some coastal areas.
