Samsung comes full circle with Gear S2 launch at Dubai Mall
Samsung Electronics officially launched the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch in the UAE last week. Unveiled at Samsung’s pop-up shop at Dubai Mall, the Samsung Gear S2 is the company’s latest wearable device, which the firm maintains is more intuitive and customisable than before.
“The Samsung Gear S2 reflects our most progressive innovation yet,” said Tarek Sabbagh, head of IM at Samsung Gulf Electronics. “Faster and more user-friendly than any device before it, the Gear S2 ensures that no moment is missed and no opportunity is wasted. It’s the only accessory that a truly modern and mobile user will ever need.”
The new smartwatch was made available to the public at the Galaxy Studio, a pop-up shop at Dubai Mall. Located at the mall’s Waterfall Atrium, the Galaxy Studio will be running until November 20, showcasing the Gear S2, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5.
The Galaxy Studio pop-up shop, which has graced London, New York City and Seoul, allows consumers to try out the new Galaxy Gear S2 smartwatch and the company’s latest flagship phones. For the next 3 weeks, the Studio will offer a white-glove tour of the devices, a unique virtual reality experience, and 3 live DJs.
The Samsung Gear S2 comes in a circular design with a custom UX and features like rotating bezel, along with the Home and Back buttons to access notifications and applications.
The device comes in two options – the Gear S2 Classic and the Gear S2 Sport – both with a 1.2-inch circular screen and 360 x 360 resolution (302 ppi).
The watch is powered by Tizen, Samsung’s proprietary mobile OS, and a 1GHz dual core processor. From this Sunday, the Sport version will be available in the UAE for Dh1,199 while the Classic will retail for Dh1,399, respectively.
The Gear S2 comes with NFC technology, which will enable mobile payments through Samsung Pay (not available yet in GCC).
The Gear S2 Sport is available in a dark gray case with a dark gray band and silver case with a white band. The Samsung Gear S2 Classic is available in a black case with a leather band.
