The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Umm Al Quwain Police General Headquarters arrested two individuals in separate cases for impersonating as CID members to carry out thefts.

In the first case, a GCC national has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of house thefts and police impersonation.

Elaborating on the details of the case, the police said that they received multiple complaints from people complaining that a man wearing the national costume approached them and stole their belongings, after claiming to be a police officer.

The suspect would enter the houses, under the pretext of conducting a warranted search and steal wallets of home owners before fleeing the scene. Upon receiving these reports, the police formed a search and investigation team to track down and arrest the suspect.

The CID team managed to identify and arrest the suspect in a short time, based on the descriptions provided by victims, and referred him to Public Prosecution after the completion of all legal procedures.

In the second case, the CID team arrested man who impersonated as a CID officer. The suspect stopped a vehicle and asked the victim to step out, claiming to be a police officer. He searched the vehicle, took the money and asked the victim to follow him to a police station, before fleeing the scene. The suspect has been referred to Public Prosecution.

UAQ Police called upon the public to cooperate with police when suspecting any case of false police impersonation, by contacting the Operations Room on 999.  Police also advised the public to be fully aware of their legal rights and not to give in to any suspicious requests to show their ID cards, unless legal procedures were followed.
