Jon Vail has been named Chief Executive of Ducab HV Cable Systems, the new joint venture in which Ducab, manufacturers of power cables, holds a 50 per cent share while Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority each hold a 25 per cent share. The announcement, made at Wetex 2010, comes a year after the joint venture was launched. Vail said construction of Ducab HV Cable Systems' new dedicated factory was in progress at a Jebel Ali site and installation of machinery would start later this year. The new company will sell cable systems in the voltage range of 66kV to 400kV, covering the highest voltage currently used in the GCC and will operate as the first dedicated high-voltage facility in the region. Once operational, the company plans to sell more than Dh1 billion of cables and associated services annually, an approximate 60 per cent of which will be consumed within the UAE market. Andrew Shaw, Managing Director, Ducab, said Vail's history of working in diverse fields made him the ideal candidate to lead the company.
