Sixty still hospitalised after China ethnic brawl
A state news agency says 60 workers who were hurt in a brawl sparked by ethnic tensions between workers at a toy factory in southern China are still receiving treatment in hospital.
Xinhua News Agency said on Sunday the hospitalised workers were among 118 injured in the fight involving hundreds of workers at the Xuri Toy Factory in Shaoguan city. Two died in the violence before order was restored early Friday morning by more than 400 police.
A spokesman from the Shaoguan City government said on Saturday the brawl was due to tensions between Uighurs – Turkic-speaking Muslims – and Han Chinese, who make up most of China’s population.
