UAE weather forecast: Why it’s cooler today in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, but 90% humidity means you won't feel the difference

Dubai: Finding that your clothes are sticking to your skin within minutes of being outdoors? There’s a good reason for it – despite temperatures dropping slightly to the low-40s today, relative humidity (RH) levels continue to remain high across the UAE.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), today’s weather will be fair to partly cloudy, with a probability of some convective cloud formation eastward by the afternoon.

The RH is peaking at 90% in coastal and internal regions – this means the air is nearly fully saturated, holding 90% of the total water vapour it can possibly contain at its current temperature. With nearly fully saturated air, the perspiration on your skin doesn’t evaporate as easily. So, stay hydrated.

The NCM forecasts humidity to build overnight and on Wednesday morning over some coastal and internal areas, such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with a chance of fog or mist formation.

Temperatures in the low-40s

Temperatures have dipped slightly, into the low-40s, across the UAE today.

According to the NCM, coastal and island regions will experience highs between 37°C and 42°C, while internal regions will be warmer, at 40°C to 45°C today.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai will reach 41°C today, while Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah will peak at 42°C. Sharjah will experience 40°C temperatures, while Ajman will be slightly cooler at 39°C. Fujairah remains the coolest emirate today, at 35°C.

Moderate sea conditions

The NCM forecasts light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds, freshening at times, and reaching speeds of up to 30km/h.

The Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman will experience slight sea conditions, according to the NCM, which means generally calm seas, with gentle wave heights expected to reach up to two feet on-shore and up to three feet off-shore.
