The UAE said yesterday it needs at least one year to deal with the repercussions of the global financial turmoil but affirmed it would emerge stronger than before.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, said the UAE and other nations had been affected by the crisis but added the impact varied within the UAE and economic sectors.

"We could continue tackling this shock for one to one-and-a-half year.

"We will come out of this crisis better and stronger than before," Sheikh Hamdan told the Kuwaiti daily Al Seyyassa.

"I am confident of our capability of putting things right in the country under the leadership of their highnesses the President and the Vice-President."

The UAE was among the first countries in the Middle East to respond to the global crisis when it announced massive financial packages for its banks in late 2008.

Officials have vowed to take more measures to protect the country's economy.
