A mechanic at RTA, JTD, 38, allegedly asked and accepted a Dh250 bribe to pass a car subject to registration renewal, the Dubai Criminal Court heard. The car’s owner BRK, 40, Pakistani driver, is accused of offering a bribe to a public employee. His compatriot AAM, 35, Pakistani, transport supervisor in a private company, is accused of criminal complicity as he mediated between the two for Dh50 that he took. Corporal Fahed Abdulrahman testified that police had received a tip off about AAM who managed to get cars with mechanic defects passed through Warsan Tasjeel station against money he shared with a mechanic in the station. Police located AAM and a police informer asked him to pass a Toyota Corolla that had failed a previous test. AAM asked for Dh300. When the police informer was talking with AAM, BRK paid AAM Dh300 for passing his Nissan. AAM drove the cars of the police informer and BRK to the test lane where JTD worked. The two cars were passed, and the police paid AAM Dh300. Policemen then raided the place and arrested the accused. AAM confessed that he had been getting cars passed for the past five months in coordination with JTD. JTD admitted knowing AAM but denied passing cars against money. The court adjourned the case to June 19.
